Posted

TOKYO, Japan – On October 15, 2020, Sonnedix Japan K.K. (Sonnedix Japan) has completed the acquisition on behalf of the Sonnedix Group of companies (Sonnedix Group) of a 14 MW solar PV plant in the Yamaguchi prefecture of Japan from global PV developer X-Elio.

The plant is located in the city of Mine and has been in commercial operation since June 2020.

“This acquisition contributes to strengthening our position in Japan, where we’ve recently completed both acquisitions and construction projects, reaching a total controlled capacity of 520 MW. It also demonstrates our commitment to optimize each investment for the long-term, as we continue to actively seek opportunities to expand our global footprint” said Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix.

X-Elio’s CEO, Mr. Lluis Noguera, states: “This transaction with Sonnedix demonstrates once again the strength of our business model and the great performance of X-Elio’s team in the development, design, construction, financing, maintenance and operation of photovoltaic plants. We are very glad to sell this asset to a leader like Sonnedix that shares our ambition to reduce CO2 emissions around the world through the development and ownership of renewable assets. Solar PV is going to be a key component to achieve Japan’s environmental targets and we will continue to develop, build and operate projects to support the country in this ambitious path.”

During its first year of operation, the plant will avoid the emission of around 10,000 tons of CO2 per year, providing green electricity to more than 1,000 homes.

With this new acquisition, Sonnedix Japan increases its operational capacity to 196 MW, in addition to over 338 MW currently in construction and/or development. X-Elio, on its end, counts with a total portfolio experience in the Japanese market of 377 MW, with 200 MW built and 177 MW under construction or development with secured tariffs.

With agreements like these, the companies reaffirm their position as key active players in the energy transition in Japan, a market traditionally dependent on nuclear power.

Sonnedix commences commercial operation on 32.9 MW of solar PV in Iwate, Japan

Posted

Tokyo, Japan – Sonnedix’s 32.9 MW Iwate Miyako Mega-solar PV Plant, located in Yamada-machi and Miyako-city, Iwate prefecture, achieved commercial operation on 3 June 2020. This is the second large scale solar PV project in Japan entering operation this year that was fully developed and financed by Sonnedix Japan for the Sonnedix Group, bringing the total operating capacity in Japan to 133 MW – with a further 83 MW, expected to reach COD later in the year.

The plant is expected to produce 39,500 MWh of clean energy during its first full year of operation. This is the equivalent to powering around 13,200 households, avoiding the emission of around 19,200 metric tons CO2 per year. The electricity generated by the solar plant will be sold to Tohoku EPCO, through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Built by Daiwa House, the PV plant is powered by 340Wp modules manufactured by Hanwha Q Cells, as well as 33kW string inverters supplied by Huawei.

Axel Thiemann, Sonnedix Group CEO, said: The beginning of the operations phase for Iwate Miyako Mega-solar PV Plant marks a milestone for Sonnedix, as it consolidates our in-country-growth and expansion strategy, and positions us as one of the leading players in the Japanese solar market.

Sonnedix Japan, on behalf of the Sonnedix group of companies (the Sonnedix Group), currently manages 133 MW of solar PV capacity in operation and more than 380 MW of solar PV capacity under construction and development.
